The Ratsey is a tribute to the 19th century canvas tote bags made by Ratsey & Lapthorn to carry ice and coal to ships in harbour. We believe these to be the oldest precursors of the iconic shape in use around the world today.
Inspired by our classic tote, the Ratsey is a modern heirloom. Sturdy build. Reinforced corners. Signature red stitching that reflects the craftsmanship behind our sails. The Ratsey’s proportions are informed by the width of the traditional sailcloth bolts used in their original construction.
Our signature hand-sewn brass eyelet allows for the addition of Knot Charms to your bag, while our Ship’s Folio can be buttoned inside. An embedded NFC chip provides authentication and traceability for each individually numbered bag.
